Autumn is the perfect excuse to replace bright summer manicures with deeper colours, warm neutrals and sophisticated finishes. This season, I'm particularly drawn to designs that combine classic shades with modern techniques.

Rich cherry gradients, glossy caramel tips and magnetic burgundy finishes are exactly what I want to wear with cosy knitwear and autumn coats.

Here are three autumn manicure ideas I'm particularly excited to try, along with the products I'd choose to recreate them.

Dark Cherry Ombré: A Sophisticated Gradient

Dark cherry ombré is one of my favourite autumn nail designs. It starts with a translucent pink base that gradually transitions into deep burgundy or almost-black cherry tips. Unlike a traditional French manicure, the colours blend seamlessly, creating an elegant gradient that visually elongates the nails.

To recreate this look, I'd start with OPI Bubble Bath for a delicate pink base and use OPI Malaga Red or Essie Bordeaux for the darker tips. A small makeup sponge helps build the gradient, while a fine blending brush softens the transition between colours.

For a professional gel manicure, I'd choose highly pigmented shades from The GelBottle and finish with its Extreme Shine Top Coat. The glossy finish enhances the depth of the cherry colour and makes the gradient particularly striking.

Caramel Chrome French: Warm And Glossy

Caramel chrome French nails offer a beautiful autumnal interpretation of a timeless manicure. Instead of traditional white tips, this design combines warm caramel brown with a translucent pink base and a subtle pearlescent glow.

I'd begin with Essie Mademoiselle to create a natural-looking base. For the tips, OPI Chocolate Moose provides a rich caramel shade, while Essie Clothing Optional offers a softer, more muted alternative.

To achieve the glazed effect, I'd apply a fine pearl chrome powder from Born Pretty over a compatible no-wipe gel top coat. Adding chrome to the base before painting the caramel tips preserves the contrast between the two finishes.

I particularly love this manicure on almond-shaped nails, where the curved brown tips complement the elegant silhouette.

Burgundy Cat-Eye: Magnetic Elegance

Burgundy cat-eye nails are perfect when I want something luxurious without complicated nail art. Magnetic pigments create a luminous effect that shifts with the light, adding beautiful dimension to deep red and plum shades.

I'd start with a dark burgundy gel base, such as the gel version of OPI Lincoln Park After Dark, followed by a magnetic gel polish from Born Pretty.

Before curing, I'd hold a nail art magnet close to the wet polish to concentrate the shimmering particles. Moving the magnet towards the edges creates a softer, diffused velvet effect, which looks particularly beautiful in autumn sunlight.

A high-gloss top coat completes the manicure and enhances its reflective finish. This design works equally well on short, rounded nails and longer almond shapes.
