The first bite says everything.
A soft bun, a juicy patty, melted cheese stretching slightly as you pull away—it's simple, but when done right, it feels like comfort on a plate.
The secret isn't complicated techniques. It's about balance, timing, and choosing the right ingredients.

Ingredients You'll Need

Getting the basics right makes all the difference. Here's what to prepare:
1. 500g ground chicken or plant-based mince
2. 4 burger buns (soft, slightly sweet works best)
3. 4 slices of cheddar cheese
4. 1 tomato, sliced
5. Lettuce leaves, washed and dried
6. 1 small onion, thinly sliced
7. 2 tablespoons mayonnaise
8. 1 tablespoon ketchup
9. Salt and black pepper to taste
10. 1 tablespoon cooking oil

Shaping the Perfect Patty

Divide the mince into four equal portions. Gently shape each into a round patty, about 1.5 cm thick. Don't press too hard—keeping it slightly loose helps maintain a juicy texture.
Use your thumb to press a small dent in the center of each patty. This prevents it from puffing up during cooking and keeps the shape even.
Season both sides lightly with salt and black pepper just before cooking.

Cooking the Patties

Heat a flat pan over medium-high heat and add a little oil. Once hot, place the patties in the pan. Let them cook undisturbed for about 3–4 minutes.
Flip once, then immediately place a slice of cheese on each patty. Cook for another 3 minutes until the cheese melts and the inside is fully cooked.
Avoid pressing down on the patties while cooking. That pushes out the juices and leaves them dry.

Preparing the Buns

Slice the buns in half and lightly toast them in the same pan for about 1 minute. This adds a slight crispness and prevents them from becoming soggy once assembled.
You can spread a thin layer of mayonnaise on the bottom half and ketchup on the top half for a balanced flavor.

Building the Burger

Now comes the satisfying part—putting it all together:
1. Bottom bun with mayonnaise
2. Lettuce layer for crunch
3. Cheesy patty placed on top
4. Tomato slices
5. Onion slices
6. A small extra drizzle of sauce if you like
7. Top bun to finish
Press gently to hold everything in place, but don't flatten it too much.

Tips for Better Flavor

Small adjustments can elevate your burger:
• Let the cooked patties rest for a minute before assembling
• Use fresh, crisp vegetables for contrast
• Keep the bun-to-patty ratio balanced—not too thick, not too thin
• Serve immediately while everything is warm and fresh
The beauty of a cheeseburger is how familiar it feels, yet how satisfying it can be when done right. Once you've made it yourself, you'll notice the difference instantly. It's not just a quick meal—it's something you'll actually look forward to making again.
