Hello Lykkers, today we explore Turaida Castle, one of the most famous historical sites in Latvia. It sits above the Gauja River Valley, surrounded by forests, hills, and open sky views.
We do not just visit a castle here. We walk through a full museum reserve with towers, exhibitions, gardens, and walking trails. The atmosphere is peaceful and very scenic, making it one of the best day trips from Riga.
A full visit usually takes 2 to 4 hours depending on how deeply we explore.

Otherwise, a day trip from Riga is enough.

Best Time to Visit

Best season:
- May to September: green landscapes, full access
- September to October: autumn colors, fewer visitors
Best time of day:
- Morning: quiet and fresh
- Late afternoon: golden light for photography
We suggest avoiding peak midday in summer because it can feel busier.

Useful Tips for a Better Visit

Wear comfortable walking shoes (stone paths and slopes)
- Bring water, especially in warm months
- Allow at least 2–3 hours for a relaxed visit
- Combine with Sigulda Castle and Gauja Valley walks
- Wind can be strong at the tower, so bring a light jacket
- Cash or card both work, but small cash is useful for buses
