How to Get There – Transportation & Costs

To reach Alpstein, Switzerland’s public transportation system makes it very convenient:

- Train to Appenzell or Wasserauen: From Zurich, trains run frequently; the journey takes about $2–2.5 per person including bus connections. From St. Gallen, the journey takes around $1 per person. Travel passes can reduce the cost.

- Local Buses: From Appenzell or nearby towns, local buses connect to Wasserauen, the base for several hikes and cable cars. Typical bus fares are around $5–10 per trip.

- Parking & Driving: If driving, parking is available at the Wasserauen cable car station, usually costing around $5–8 per day.
