Short Hair Struggle

Hey hey βοΈ
Have you ever walked out of the salon with a fresh short cut, looked in the mirror, and thoughtβ¦
"Wait, this isn't what I asked for" π¬? Because SAME. For the longest time, I thought short hair just wasn't for me. But turns out β it wasn't the hair, it was the wrong kind of short hair for my face and vibe.
So if you've been stuck in a loop of short-hair regret like I was, here's everything I wish someone had told me earlier π‘
It's not just about cutting it "short"
I used to show my stylist photos of girls with super chic pixie cuts or edgy bobs and say, "I want this!" But I didn't realize β what looked amazing on them didn't suit me at all. That's because face shape, hair texture, and personal style really matter.
For example, I have a rounder face, and every time I got a chin-length bob, it made my face look puffier. Once I went slightly longer with front layers, it totally balanced things out!
Neckline makes a huge difference
This is the detail I didn't even think about before β the back of the haircut. A blunt cut right at the neck made me look kind of stiff (and my head, kind of boxy π
). But when I asked for a softer, tapered finish at the nape, it looked so much more flattering and feminine.
If you feel like your short hair always feels "off," check how it's shaped in the back β it could be the missing piece!
Volume placement is everything
I have super fine hair, and when it's short, it gets flat real quick. One time, my cut had all the volume at the bottom, and it made my head look top-heavy. Not cute.
Now I ask for layers at the crown to lift the top and keep the shape more balanced. Bonus: a little texturizing spray goes a long way for this β¨
Styling is 50% of the final look
Let's be honest β no matter how good the cut is, if we don't know how to style it, it can still look "meh." I learned this the hard way when I skipped blow-drying or didn't use the right brush.
Now I spend 5β7 minutes styling with a round brush and some lightweight mousse. It makes the hair sit right where it should and brings the shape to life!
Talk to your stylist β really
I used to nod and say "yeah" to whatever my stylist suggested. Big mistake π
Now I show clear photos, explain what I didn't like about past cuts, and ask what works for my face shape. That honest chat made all the difference.
And remember β "short" doesn't mean the same for everyone. Your short could be someone else's medium. Be clear!
Have you been there too?
I'd love to hear if you've ever had a short hair moment you regrettedβ¦ or finally nailed the perfect cut π Let's chat in the comments β tell me what worked for you (or didn't)! We're all just trying to avoid awkward grow-out stages together π
Your hair, your rules β but let's make it work for you πββοΈβ¨
