Sleeping With Lights

Hey Lykkers ๐ŸŒ™๐Ÿ’ฌ Let's chat about something we don't always think too much about โ€” do you sleep with the lights on?
I used to! Especially when I stayed alone or in unfamiliar places. It felt safer, but... my sleep always felt weird. So I started digging and testing it out for myself โ€” and let me tell you, the difference is real. ๐Ÿ˜ด

๐Ÿ’ก Why I Used to Sleep With Lights On

When I was younger, I always had a dim light on at night โ€” nightlight, hallway light, sometimes even my bedside lamp ๐Ÿ˜…
It made me feel secure, especially when I lived alone or was traveling. But the weird thing? I kept waking up tired.
At first, I thought it was just stress. Turns out, light was part of the problem.

๐Ÿง  Your Brain Thinks It's Still Day

Even a little light can confuse our brain.
Light tells our body it's time to stay alert โ€” even if it's just a lamp. That means melatonin (the sleep hormone) doesn't flow well, and deep sleep doesn't come easily.
Ever felt like you slept long but didn't sleep well? This might be why.

๐Ÿ›Œ I Tried Sleeping in Total Darkness

So I gave it a go โ€” full blackout.
I bought blackout curtains and turned off every single light (even those tiny glowing charger lights). The first few nights felt strange, like too quiet or too dark.
But after about 3โ€“4 nights, I noticed I was waking up fresher. My head felt clearer in the mornings, and I even dreamed more (a sign of deeper sleep!).

โš ๏ธ What Happens If You Keep Sleeping With Lights?

From my own reading and experience, here's what could happen:
You wake up more often at night ๐Ÿ˜ฉ
Your body might struggle with blood sugar balance over time
Mood changes โ€” light at night messes with your inner clock, which can affect how you feel
Higher chance of gaining weight or feeling sluggish (yep, that surprised me too)

๐Ÿ’ก What I Do Now

I still get nervous in super dark places, so here's my balance:
I use a motion-sensor night light in the hallway โ€” only turns on when I move
I set my phone to night mode + do not disturb
If I'm in a hotel with weird lights, I use a sleep mask โ€” total game-changer ๐Ÿ’ค
So Lykkers, are you team "light on" or "pitch black"? ๐ŸŒš
If you've never tried full darkness, maybe give it a few nights and see how you feel! It honestly changed how I rest.
Let me know if you've noticed this too โ€” or if you have tricks for better sleep. Sweet dreams! ๐Ÿ›๏ธโœจ
