Baby Food Guide

Hey everyone! 👋
If your little one is hitting that 6-month mark, you might be wondering how to start solid foods safely and smoothly. From my own journey, I learned that introducing solids can be fun but also a bit tricky at first.
So, here's a clear, easy guide on the best order to add new foods, plus some handy tips to keep it stress-free! Let's dive in! 🍽️✨
Why 6 months? The perfect timing
Around 6 months, most babies are ready for solids because their digestive system is more developed, and they need extra nutrients beyond milk. Plus, they start showing interest in food and can sit up with support. This makes it a great time to try out new tastes and textures.
Start simple: single-ingredient foods
Begin with easy-to-digest purees like rice cereal, mashed sweet potatoes, or pureed carrots. These are gentle on your baby's tummy and help you watch for any allergic reactions. I found starting with a spoonful once a day and gradually increasing works best.
Add veggies and fruits next
After the first few days, mix in other veggies like peas, squash, or green beans. Then try fruits like mashed banana, apple, or pear. Offering a variety early on helps babies develop a taste for different flavors and textures.
Introduce proteins and iron-rich foods
Around a week or two after veggies and fruits, try pureed meats like chicken or turkey, or iron-fortified cereals. Iron is super important at this stage because babies need it for growth and brain development. I recommend small amounts at first and watching how your baby reacts.
Watch for signs and take it slow
Every baby is different. Some may love new foods right away, while others need more time to adjust. Look for signs your baby enjoys or dislikes something, like smiling or turning away. Keep meals relaxed and don't rush—it's all about exploration.
Keep milk as main nutrition
Even while adding solids, breastmilk or formula should still be the main source of nutrition until around 12 months. Solids at this stage are more about introducing tastes and getting used to eating.
